Rā 304 Rātapu 30 o Whiringa-ā-nuku

A day out getting up high on the mighty maunga – Te Aroha.  I didn’t really intend going all the way to the top as I wasn’t sure if my hip would cope.  But by the time I got more than half way, it just didn’t seem appropriate to turn back without reaching the summit.  The views across the Waikato, north to Coromandel and along the Kaimais were stunning.

Day 157 June 5th 2016

Paula finally got us up Te Aroha! 900m of upwardness in 1hr20 over 4km.  We’ve done it several times before but not so quickly – usually have children to coax up the rooty,  rocky, steep path.
The band of high pressure approx over NZ right now meant that we started in a temperature inversion but but frozen toes, fingers and noses soon melted as we climbed. I don’t think I’ve ever seen it so still and clear at the top. Stunning views. Ran down in 55 minutes. What a beautiful winter day.

Day 101 April 10th 2016

Back on the trails today! Another adventure with the insatiable Paula.  A gentle wander around the lower trails on Te Aroha.  Just 11km (a tad more than we intended due to getting lost on the loopy mountain bike trails!) we even found a mine entrance.
