Cheating today because I didn’t take a single photo!  But I took several yesterday and I love this one of a Koru – leaves unfurling on a fern.  One of my favourite things,  I am fascinated by the way those tightly coiled leaves gently and slowly unwind.  Perfection. The koru is a māori symbol of rebirth, regeneration.

Fern unfurling in native bush in New Zealand

Went out on the trails at Tarawera today. A bit of a step up for me to 22km with quite a bit of climbing. I felt really good out to the half way point but struggled in the last 5km coming back. Sustained upwardness on very tired legs. The weather was kind to us though. Four hours of run /walking and my legs know they did something today! Good tired though!

After 8 years in NZ we have finally taken the plunge to becoming NZ citizens. We will still be UK citizens but will have the benefit of dual citizenship. This is the boys at our “citizenship” interview sitting beneath the portraits of the kingi.

Beautiful light down at the lake this morning. Forced to walk after my calf muscle pinged, I took the time to look around me more closely and take more photos than usual. Hard to decide which to choose but went for the moment when the sun rose. I love the way the light changes when the sun rises..that transition from dawn to day, from softness of light to brightness.

A good win today for the Hillcrest Blues. A full turnout so we took the chance to get a team photo. Proud of my wee boy for scoring a corker of a goal and my big wee man for refereeing and coaching the team.

A stunning sunset this evening in Matamata. Red sky at night…

Bluebird sky today.  And these colours on Tongue of Dog are just stunning.

A very frosty morning at the lake today but it was good to be able to start running in the light as the sun rose.  The sharp blue sky of Hamilton gave way to increasing cloud as I flew South. Even through the murky yellowness of the plane window Ngarahoe shone resplendent enrobed in snow. It was a bumpy old descent into Wellington but the wind roared and hissed and had blown itself and the rain away before we headed out to sample the craft beer delights of Beervana.

So today’s photos tell a story of winter weather and warming beer!

Day 31 January 31st 2016

Holiday weekend and a visitor from the UK so a trip to the beach was in order.  Kawhia has been in the list to visit for a long time and we finally made it out there. What a beautiful place so hard to choose a photo. But I like this one of the Wharf full of families enjoying the water – so much life!
