The ups and downs
Summer seems to be here. My ranch sliders are open, the sun streams in and so does the noisy chirruping of the blackbirds. On going outside to see why they are making so much noise, I find Tonks sitting nonchalantly on the fence. She appears to be totally oblivious to the consternation she has provoked!
A teenager’s life is hard! Gus managed to walk today. A brief respite from his supine position in bed or on the sofa! He even made himself useful!
Work felt more like work today with a team meeting this morning. Got carried away and forgot to stop – a bad habit which I need to break this year -so didn’t walk away from the screen until 7.30!
Just had a wander round the garden to find the pumpkin patch is looking rather triffid-like. Need to start eating pumpkins!
Back to work today. Strange to be back in front of a screen so it was good to go out for a walk when Nigel got home. We went up to the trig through the gardens. We’re very lucky to have such amazing gardens on our doorstep. Here’s Nigel photo bombing my shot of the Agapanthus.
Nigel’s birthday. Celebrated with friends at Craft – a surprise party which involved much subterfuge! I love this captured moment of Nigel and Lachlan.
I spent the day out at Okataina clearing trails for Tarawera Ultra Marathon. It was a beautiful day.
A day to rest my bones today. Cleaned muddy shoes, did a bit of weeding and pottering in the garden. Pleased to see the lilac bush I planted last year in flower and a monarch butterfly feasting deeply on its nectar. Big son came for tea which is always a pleasure….don’t see him often enough.
We had a great day out in the hills today. We’ve been here nearly 9 years and never been up Karioi which is a 756m inactive volcano out at the coast by Raglan. It was a perfect day weather-wise with clear blue sky, a light wind and sunshine. So difficult to choose a photo from so many beautiful views
but this one of Gus sitting on a boulder just before the summit with Nigel emerging from the bush behind him is the one! It was an adventure! Plenty of mud, lots of ups and downs, chains, boulders and airy lookouts!
Starting the year off with a blast and making the most of my last few days of holidays.
26km from Poiwhenua to Arapuni Dam and back again with the Minions minus 1. (Main Minion is in Orlando about to do the Dopey Challenge – 1 crazy Minion!)
It was a beautiful day and good to get some solid training in for the Oxfam Trailwalk.
Back out on the trails today! Bit of a gnarly one – a hard won 15km over rooty, undulating terrain. ‘Costa Rican flat’ as a young trekking guide told us in CR a couple of years ago!!
Loved it! As the rain came in later in the afternoon the bush was almost ethereal with a mixture of steam and cloud. It reminded me a bit of the Costa Rican rainforest.
