The ups and downs
A beautiful spring day today. A nip in the air but the sun was strong. Great day to get up high. Happy place!
The sun came out today and I decided to escape the house and go and work in the cafe down the road. I miss the magnolia trees at Dio – I used to walk past them everyday on the way to my classroom and watch as the buds grew and then burst into flower and then fade and fall. The ones on the way down to the river are pretty stunning though. I came across a couple of cats too – black cats crossing your path are good luck and this wee fella looks a bit battered but happy soaking up the sun. The one in the basket is Tonks – her new bed in Aonghas’ bedroom!

Been busy at the sewing machine….not saying what for though. Sshh, it’s a secret!
So the conversation over dinner revolved around PLNs, social networked connections and how powerful they can be for learning. This was how Nigel chose to illustrate how the connections work. I added the red lines! The connections were brutally cut off when he ate the crackers!
Coffee and cats. The simple things in life.
Daisies. Such simple things that bring such joy. Fresh faced and cheerful even in the rain. Spotted these from my desk, the rain had stopped so I went out barefoot in the wet grass to marvel at them. And take a photo!!
8The 2017 Oxfam Trailwalker campaign is underway! First team training walk today as the Minions and it was a wet and muddy climb up Kakepuku.
Our new team name is March a Minion Miles inspired by our crazy team mate, Paula who is minion mad!
The long drive home! Plenty of photos on the way but I think this one wins today. I really can’t believe that an old milk bottle is really being sold for $9! Maybe it is time to bring back the humble recyclable milk bottles?
Early starts don’t suit the Hilly Boys! Neither does a cold, grey, wet and windy Wellington! Losing Lewis and Braydon to injuries on top of Gus being out impacted not just on the physical and skill level of the team but also the mental game. They kept battling but couldn’t break through. This was a final for them: they needed to win to stay in the India Rankin Cup next year. They didn’t. 3.15 saw us all back at the turf for the 27/28th place play off. Gus, having found his shoe and with foot firmly strapped, was determined to play. Scott’s College were bigger and well-drilled and they quickly took control. Once it was clear the game was lost the boys settled in to enjoy themselves. They continued to play hard but had fun as they went. Scott’s took it all in good heart.
And finally a win and 4 goals! Jubilation and relief all round. But the boys made us sweat it out by going 2 – 0 up early in the first half, then letting New Plymouth get back on even terms by half time. The boys gave away a soft goal early in the 2nd half and then equalised with about 10 mins to go. A well defended final second PC sent us into ‘golden goal’, no goalies and 9 men apiece. Tension, emotions running high.. and fortunately, after some pressure in the circle from NPBHS we broke free, got the ball into an undefended circle and scored!!!
Jo was pleased not to be sent into a penalty shoot out!
