The ups and downs
No photos today. A big work day catching up on the normal stuff after being away for three weeks. But time this evening to catch up on Game of Thrones which, despite myself, I am enjoying. Devastated yesterday that John Snow was killed but magic brought him back today… Poetic license is a wonderful thing!
Another long day out but on the bike today. The Old Coach Road is a gnarly ride from Ohakune to Horopito but easier on the way back. The viaducts are incredible – what a testament to the engineering skills of the Victorian era.
Our midwinter weekend away. Family time, time to relax, recharge batteries, enjoy the fresh air and take in the magnificent scenery. Love Tongariro because we can get above the tree line and appreciate the big skies and the rugged terrain. So difficult to choose a photo today because I took so many! Maybe this one at the end of the day when the sun was setting in the west and casting it’s light on Mount Ruapehu and the moon was rising next to it.
Our last SMS workshop today in Hamilton. It’s been a blast but good to be done! Time to spend some time with two of my boys. This photo was taken from the car on the way to the mountain. It’s been edited in Snapseed.
The strangest things get left behind after workshops! The question is – where did a raw sprout come from? Who carries raw sprouts around with them, anyway?!

After our workshop in Auckland today we decided a breath of sea air was in order. Lunch in St Heliers and a stroll along the beach. I’ve been trying out a new app called Portrait Painter – quite nice effect but a little bit limited.
Just had to share my new laptop cover.. Endless fun!
On the road again! Last week away and then some family time. I had the chance to go to an Educafe discussion this evening: What is the purpose of school and how do we make school purposeful for all students? A meaty question which we really only skimmed the surface of. But I liked this idea from one participant… Are we churning out products or are we providing a space to grow?
Home for a day! Gus suggested I should start paying hotel fees when I come home…
We dropped him off at hockey then went for lunch. Date time with Nigel! Good to spend time together. Then I went to watch the last part of the second game Aonghas was due to play. Unfortunately, he had been hit on the shoulder with a ball and couldn’t play. Already a nasty bruise and sore to move but it will work it’s way through a range of colours before it’s done!
